Louder In The Regions: ZOE HOWE in Conversation: The Ship Inn, SHEFFIELD
Zoë Howe is a music biographer, musician, artist and long time comrade of Louder Than Words, having worked with the festival since its inception. In this special event Zoë will discuss her debut novel Shine On, Marquee Moon, a rock ‘n’ roll love story with a dark heart and a twist of satire, celebrating the extremes of the music business and exposing the hilarious and often bizarre reality of life on and off the road.  Shine On, Marquee Moon was shortlisted for the Virginia Prize For Fiction 2016, was Blackwell’s ‘Independent Book Of The Month’ on release, and recently was featured by NME as one of their ‘objects of desire’. Shine On is also Zoë’s first self-published book, and she will talk to us about why she made the decision to go ‘DIY’ with her debut, as well as touching on her previous books, which include Lee Brilleaux: Rock ’n’ Roll Gentleman, Barbed Wire Kisses - The Jesus and Mary Chain Story, Wilko Johnson - Looking Back At Me, Stevie Nicks - Visions, Dreams and Rumours and Typical Girls? The Story Of The Slits. zoehowe.bandcamp.com / zoehowe.com "Shine on, Marquee Moon is everything you'd expect from Zoë Howe: warm, wry, evocative and unconventional. This is an author who knows the idiosyncrasies of the music business and captures them all with candour and affection in a novel that is funny, fierce and better than most comeback tours.” – Jane Bradley, founder and director of For Books’ Sake.  "Tangled romance, ripe idiocy, monstrous self-delusion and 'that familiar backstage smell - hairspray, sweat, alcohol, dust burning on lightbulbs' ... Zoë Howe's crackling account of life around a rock band is fast, funny and superbly well-observed"  – Mark Ellen, music journalist and editor (Smash Hits, The Word, Select, Mojo, Q), broadcaster and author of Rock Stars Stole My Life ...

Visual Expressions: From Athens to Sheffield
You are cordially invited to the Circle Gallery on 7 July 2017 for a private view of Visual Expressions: From Athens to Sheffield, opening a solo exhibition of works by the contemporary visual artist, Nadezhda Yakustidi, best known as Nadya. The exhibition will be open for viewing until 11 August 2017. Featuring a bright selection of portraits, landscapes and still lifes of floral and fruit themes, the exhibition will aim to celebrate expressions of life through colour and creatively energize Sheffield audiences during the peak of England's summer. Nadya is delighted to showcase a collection of twenty-seven works in Sheffield city, which like Athens is built on seven hills. The common concept behind the Cities On Seven Hills inspired the artist to add a unifying touch to this exhibition’s title. Visual Expressions: From Athens to Sheffield reflects Nadya’s creative vision and mode of self-expression, which have been greatly influenced by the warmth and vibrancy of Greece, a country very dear to the artist’s heart. Nadya’s style has been described as Expressionist with touches of Symbolism, Post-Impressionism and Fauvism. The exhibition’s palette is bright, and the artist applies colour with versatility, optimism and self-reflection. As Nadya admits, for her art is an expression of soul in colour. Her visual expressions are imbued with love for nature, flowers, people and all making up her world. Travels throughout Athens, the Greek countryside and islands have served Nadya as a source of inspiration and frequently compelled her to share her experiences there via vivid, original and expressive work, which is thoughtfully curated in this exhibition. BIO Born in 1967 in Stavropol, Russia (former USSR), Nadezhda "Nadya" Yakustidi is a contemporary visual artist based in Athens, Greece. She is a distinguished member of the International Union of Artists and the Russian Union of Artists, as well as the NYC-based International Fine Arts Consortium (IFAC) and London-based ArtCan (former What Is the Point?) arts collective. Nadya’s work is held in private collections, galleries and art salons in Greece, Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Canada, Russia, the Unites States and the United Kingdom. She has participated in numerous international exhibitions, including a solo show at the Regional Museum of History and Art in the Stavropol region of Russia and group shows at Clerkenwell Gallery, Strand Gallery, 19 Greek Street Gallery and TOTO Concept Gallery in London. Visual Expressions: From Athens to Sheffield is Nadya's third solo exhibition in the UK, following THE BLISS OF COLOUR, which successfully took place in Shoreditch in December 2016 and Hellas Inspired Visual Expressions, which was elegantly curated this June at the London Latvian Centre. www.nadyaart.com  The Circle Gallery is conveniently located in the heart of Sheffield at The Circle, 33 Rockingham Lane, Sheffield S1 4FW.  Private View: 7 July 2017, 17:30 - 20:30 Exhibition Dates: 7 July - 11 August 2017  (Monday - Friday, 9:00 - 17:00)     ...
